We are moving right along to Month 4 in our annual quilt along. We are having so much fun with these small colorful blocks.
For those that have asked the size of the blocks, each block should be 6 1/2". They will be 6" finished when we have them all sewn together in the quilt top.
For all the specifics for the quilt along and links to all the blog posts, check out the main quilt along page:
We'll add each month's link to that page and it also goes over fabric requirements and schedule. We recommend bookmarking it if you would like to be able to always find the posts easily.
Cutting the White/Background Fabric
Remember, for your white fabric you can simply cut off what you need from your yardage each month, no need to precut it down to anything.
- 8 @ 1 1/4" x WOF
- Subcut into 40 - 1 1/4 x 7" strips
Cutting Month 4 Colored Fabric
From each of the Month 4 sections you will need:
- 4 @ 1 1/4 x 7"
Making the Quilt Block
Blocks will be 6 1/2".
- Sew 1 - 1 1/4 x 7" white strip to 1 - 1 1/4 x 7" colored strip along the long side
- Repeat with remaining strips to create 4 sets
- Sew 2 strips together, alternating white and colored fabric
- Repeat with remaining 2 sets
- Cut 7" strips in half to create 4 - 3 1/2" squares
Following the diagram below, layout the 4 squares.
Sew the top 2 squares together, sew the bottom 2 squares together, sew the rows together.
Repeat with all Month 4 colored sections to make 10 blocks!
Remember, when you are done, find a place you can store the blocks flat so you don't have to press them all again before we assemble the final quilt.
Month 5 will be released the second Wednesday of May!
Happy Quilting
