Sprinkles - Dream Fabric Blog Tour

Kimberlee Tanner

We were so excited when Kristy asked us to participate in the Blog Tour for her new line Dream with Riley Blake Designs. If you follow Kristy at all @quietplay you know she is all about rainbows and bright and just amazingly fun fabric. Basically everything we love!

There are so many different colors and prints in this collection, we didn't eve use them all. When it came to designing a quilt, we decided on something fun and playful and easy! We wanted something that really showed off the fabric and something we could create a rainbow with. It's hard not to want to make a rainbow when you have the perfect designs for it.

As we designed the shapes, we really loved the white contrast against the colors. We opted for a diamond in a diamond to add a little extra pop! To keep it simple and accurate, we opted for foundation paper piecing. It makes these blocks go together so quickly with no crazy angle cutting or bias edges to deal with.

Now that we had our shape finalized, it was all about layout. As opposed to filling the quilt with blocks, we left negative space so you can really see the fun prints of the fabric. We wanted to see all those mini rainbows and clouds and hearts.

A nice white border really finishes off the design.

This size uses 12 different fabrics. With lots of different prints in the rainbow of colors, it allows for some easy customization. If you want more blues and greens, you could easily stick to those, or just pinks and purples, or mix and match to fit whatever colors you like. This quilt also uses fat quarters!

For our quilt we used:

  • Blue Drift
  • Peacock Heartfelt
  • Vivid Dream in Color
  • Green Drift
  • Green Lullaby
  • Yellow Heartfelt
  • Melon Drift
  • Fuchsia Lullaby
  • Pink Drift
  • Pink Dream in Color
  • Purple Heartfelt
  • Grape Scatter Love

Of course we also have white and we backed our quilt in Grape Scatter Love. If you want a rainbow back as well though, definitely check out Rainbow Dream Main, it a whole rainbow of clamshell goodness!

We used Deep Water Solid for our Binding.

After the top was finished, it was time to decide on quilting! In the borders, I marked and quilted chevrons that matched and outlined the white blocks on the inside.

Inside, I opted to draw out a few clouds and fill in the rest with swirly wind.

I left the white diamonds empty so they pop out of the background. I did outline them and the little colored line inside as well.

We are quickly working on finalizing the pattern and it will be available next week. The fabric will be arriving in stores any day, so go visit your local quilt shop and request some! Then spend the rest of the summer quilting beautiful rainbows of happiness!
